Dr. Arnold Kegel was an American gynecologist, born in Iowa in 1894. He was the Assistant Professor of Gynecology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He invented the Kegel perineometer. This device is used to measure the strength of contractions of the pelvic floor muscles. However, it is the pelvic floor exercises named after him – Kegels – that he is perhaps most famous for.
